The economic land scape of Kerala state is mainly shaped by the expatriates working across the world more particularly in the middle east. Their contributions substantially increased the living standards of families and its infrastructure. The inflow of funds stimulated economic development and infrastructural growth in our state to make it GODS OWN COUNTRY. The expatriate’s community plays a multi-faceted role in strengthening Kerala's economy by providing financial support, fostering investment and increasing job opportunities. Reciprocatively it is the duty of the state to take care, the welfare, safety and well being of the expatriates and their families.
The Non Resident Indians' Keralites affairs - NORKA, is a Department of the Kerala Government, formed on 6th December 1996, to redress the grievances of Non Resident Indians' Keralites (NRI(K)s). It is the first of its kind formed in any Indian State. This Department was formed in an attempt to strengthen the relationship between the NRI(k)s and the Government of Kerala and to improve the administrative frame work. Expatriates are facing myraids of issues such as VISA cheating, Matrimonial issues, Emigration problems, poor job conditions, issues with sponsors, salary disputes etc etc. Understanding the real time issues, Government of Kerala decided to constitute a Commission with the sole objective of protecting the welfare of Non Resident Indians' Keralites and their families. With that vision, The Non Resident Indians' (Keralites) Commission Act 2015 was enacted, and the Non Resident Indians' (Keralites) Commission was constituted under that Act, with its headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram.
